OCCOQUAN, Va. — A Prince William County Historical Commission marker at the site of Agnewville — also called Smoketown or Chinntown — a thriving African American community founded by the formerly enslaved Chinn family, who purchased roughly 500 acres near Occoquan after emancipation and whose descendants lived there across six generations.
