ANNANDALE, Va. — The tree decorating and lighting and live music by the Annandale Terrace Elementary School’s 5th-grade chorus were the highlights of The Winter Wonderland Festival at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space in Annandale.

Hot cocoa, treats, and activities for children, including winter-themed crafts, were also available. Hosted by the Fairfax County Community Revitalization Section, this was the final community event at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space in 2024 and a great way to celebrate the season.

(VIDEO): ANNANDALE, Va. — The Annandale High School Orchestra students and guest artist Christylez Bacon performed "Vivaldi Springs Forth" during the 2023 Spring Orchestra Concert at Annandale High School.

Mrs. Annie Ray, the Itinerant Music, and Strings Teacher at Annandale High School, was the recipient of the Christylez Bacon Residency, one of eight Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts grants awarded to eight teachers at public high schools in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. The purpose of these grants is to fund music, dance, and theater education. During the year, Annandale High School welcomed Bacon as an artist-in-residence to teach improvisation and composition to the school’s four orchestra ensembles and explore their musical culture and heritage. The Spring Concert was the first public performance of the students' work with Bacon.

The piece was arranged by Ezinma and Dr. Irving Ray. Along with Bacon, soloists Armen Boghosian, Tommy Tran, Marc Akl, and Thien Phan were featured during the performance.
