FAIRFAX, Va. โ€” A wonderful evening supporting our friend Nancy M. Patrick at the art reception at the Old Town Hall, hosted by the Fairfax Art League, the nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting local artists in the Fairfax, Virginia, area.

The Fairfax Art League provides a platform for artists to showcase their work, offers educational programs, and fosters a vibrant community of art enthusiasts. Through exhibitions, workshops, and community events, the league aims to enhance the cultural landscape of Fairfax and create opportunities for artists to connect and grow.

Tonight's meet and greet was with the local artists who bring art to the Fairfax Regional Library, Old Town Hall, Green Acres Community Center, Main Street Child Development Center, local churches, and regional festivals.

COLONIAL BEACH, Va. โ€” The George Washington Birthplace National Monument commemorates the birthplace of the United States' first President. The former plantation's grounds include a replica Colonial-era house, gardens, and a colonial kitchen. It also features exhibits about Washington's early life and the plantation's history, offering insights into his upbringing and the cultural landscape of colonial Virginia in the 18th century.

LURAY, Va. โ€” Skyline Drive winds for 105 miles in Shenandoah National Park, along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The winding serpentine road provides panoramic views of the Shenandoah Valley to the west and the Virginia Piedmont to the east as it meanders through lush forest. The more than 70 scenic overlooks offer mountain vistas and access to various natural wonders.

Alongside the stunning landscapes, the park also offers views of diverse wildlife, including deer, black bears, and numerous bird species, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and casual travelers.

CHANTILLY, Va. โ€”ย The Sully Historic Site in Chantilly, Va., offers visitors a glimpse into life in the early 19th century with its mansion and the surrounding estate. The original home was built in 1794 by Richard Bland Lee, northern Virginiaโ€™s first congressman. The Federal-style architecture and period furnishings reflect the lifestyle of Virginia's elite during that era.

Today, the property is managed by the Fairfax County Park Authority and provides guided tours, educational programs, and seasonal events, including todayโ€™s Juneteenth celebration.

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. โ€” Located at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers, Harpers Ferry is home to the iconic John Brown Fort, where abolitionist John Brown and his raiders made their last stand, the charming historic Lower Town, and the original campus of Storer College. For 25 years, Storer College was the only school in West Virginia where people of color could receive education beyond the primary level.

From the park, visitors can walk across the Potomac River from West Virginia into Maryland and visit the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park towpath (also part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail). Alternatively, hikers can traverse the Appalachian National Scenic Trail as it winds through Lower Town.
