WASHINGTON — The National Mall is a historic and symbolic open space stretching from the U.S. Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. Often called "the nation’s premier civic gathering place" it is flanked by iconic landmarks—including the Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, and the Reflecting Pool. The Mall is also the home to Smithsonian museums, federal monuments, and memorials honoring U.S. presidents, military service members, and pivotal moments in American history. Managed by the U.S. National Park Service, the Mall hosts millions of visitors each year for recreation, education, and national events such as presidential inaugurations and public demonstrations, embodying the democratic ideals at the heart of the United States.
