GLEN ECHO, Md. — Glen Echo Park National Historic Site preserves a layered cultural landscape that began in 1891 as a National Chautauqua Assembly promoting liberal education. By the early 1900s, it evolved into a major amusement park serving the D.C. area until its closure in 1968. Today, visitors can explore its restored 1921 Dentzel Carousel, historic Spanish‑ballroom dance pavilion, art studios, galleries, children’s theaters like Adventure Theatre, and enjoy hundreds of classes, social dances, performances, and seasonal festivals.
